Federal lawsuit calls for repeal of Pomona’s sex offender ordinance

POMONA >> A Santa Maria lawyer filed a federal lawsuit against Pomona this week calling for the repeal of a 2008 ordinance regulating the presence of sex offenders in the city.

According to the lawsuit, the city’s ordinance goes beyond what is contained in the ordinances of other cities by prohibiting sex offenders from being on private property, such as arcades or movie theaters.

Pomona’s ordinance is “one of the worst ordinances in our state,” said Janice Bellucci, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of Frank Lindsey of Grover Beach in San Luis Obispo County.

Bellucci said her client has not lived in Pomona but could be interested in visiting the city at some point. Pomona’s ordinance is such that “we believe it violates the federal and state constitutions,” Bellucci said. Full Article

The world is a better place because of true defenders of liberty like Janice Bellucci!

Seems as though Pomona has more to worry about than restricting the liberties of registered citizens.
But then again if you want to look tough on crime, just choose the easiest targets.

POMONA, Calif. (KABC) — A search is underway for multiple gunmen after a wave of deadly shootings in Pomona over the weekend. The shootings happened hours after a peace rally in the city.

According to coroner’s records, there were at least three people killed between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

There are 198 registered offenders in Pomona (2014). That is one for every 777 Pomona citizens. The counsel there and this lawsuit just sounds like hot air to me. When you are not on parole or probation, you can go where you please and that is state law. If you attract the attention of a police officer and they find out about your past, then they could make trouble for you. But by that time your motives for being where you are have come into question. To make this clear to all who read this. Who is your agent when you are not on probation or parole?

I’m glad Janice is going after this city; And thank you too Frank. I was arrested in Pomona and convicted in their courthouse too. Had I decided to stay in Pomona I would have had to move when these laws came into being. I’m glad I left town. As wonderin points out Pomona has allot more serious threats to children than registrants. Their gang problem is off the charts and it’s not uncommon to hear of murders, assaults, brawling, burglaries, auto theft; and any other crime you can think of. The drug problem in Pomona is also off the charts. The general population would think me crazy to say drugs, gangs and the threat of young girls being turned into a prostitute by a gang is a bigger problem than having someone on the registry living near a school. I hope Pomona gets a really good spanking. They deserve it. I also hope and pray that this country will wake up to what they are doing and return to a sane state of mind. The real threat to their well being and their children s well being, as well as their future are the self serving politicians that exploit one crime and use it to oppress hundreds of thousands of citizens for their personal gain.
